Frequently Asked Questions
What kind of concrete do I need ?
It depends on what you are planning. We supply three types of concrete. Firstly, a 631 concrete is made for a single storey extension or a garden wall footing, conservatory footings – not a lot of weight bearing. It’s low ratio cement versus sand and gravel.
A 421 concrete is for a double storey extension, a shed base, a hot tub base, internal floors – our most common concrete with a higher mix of cement for a stronger finish. Also used for kerbings and other contractor applications.
Our 221 concrete is industrial strength, with the maximum level of cement. For industrial floors and yards to withstand Heavy Goods Vehicles and heavy loads. Perfect for commercial and agriculture, farm yards and kennels as this level of concrete can withstand animal fluids.
What are Fibres ?
Fibres are a reinforcement, as opposed to a mesh or bars. It simply reinforces your concrete, thus making it stronger.
What is Plasticiser ?
Plasticiser is an additive that reduces the weakening effect of water in your concrete. With plasticiser you can use smaller amounts of water and still maintain strength.
Why should I use Frost Proofing ?
Frost proofing prevents a finished floor from cracking under freezing temperatures.
What is Slump ?
Slump describes the consistency of your concrete. A dry mix = no water. Semi dry is very tacky, with a small amount of water. A medium slump is our default consistency, ideal for most applications. A wet slump is only applied on site after the customer has checked the consistency and agreed to add more water.
Remember – you cannot take water out of the concrete once added.
How long does it take to dry ?
A millimeter (depth) per day is the standard recommendation until the concrete is completely set. However you should be able to ‘walk on’ after 3 or 4 days.
How soon can you deliver ?
Same day, where possible. Next day, if the order comes in before 3pm on the prior afternoon, again, where possible. Whereas we endeavor to deliver as soon as possible, we cannot guarantee delivery times due to fluctuations in order levels and staffing levels at any given time.
What if I’ve ordered too much ?
We will remove any excess concrete for you – Free of charge.
What areas do you deliver too ?
We deliver into Leicestershire, Derbyshire and Staffordshire.
Can you help move the concrete ?
We offer a FREE BARROWING SERVICE. This means that we will help you or your labourer barrow your concrete from the mixer to the area of your site where the work will be carried out. This service is dependent on safe access for our staff. Under some circumstances we will help you or your labourer rake and level the concrete before we leave.
Do your deliveries leave a mess ?
